The Sterling by MusicMan SUB bass guitar offers the look, sound, and playability of original MusicMan StingRay guitars. The SUB Ray series features very comfortable shapes with a solid basswood body and a pleasant maple neck, creating a resonant wood assembly with complex harmony. Additionally, the bass is equipped with high-performance electronics, including a humbucker pickup and an active 2-band equalizer, which provide the StingRay basses with their signature tonal complexity. The only shocking information about this bass is its low price.

Why the neck is so comfortable to play

The hand moving across the fretboard touches the neck 100% of the time while playing. This bass features a super comfortable satin finish on the back of the neck. This finish is not glossy, will never become sticky, and will always feel very pleasant to the touch. The tinted satin finish not only looks good but also gives the instrument a classic appearance.

High-performance humbucker pickup

The high-performance pickup is designed for clarity and undistorted reproduction of natural bass tones. Two rows of large magnets transfer information from the strings to the pickup and feed the 2-band active EQ preamp. The tones can be aggressive, wild, or mellow. It’s up to you to find your sound. Three adjustment screws help find the right position for the pickup both in height and angle relative to the strings.

Neck adjustment

Every instrument occasionally needs neck adjustment; with SUB instruments, it is simple and hassle-free. No special tools are required. An adjustment wheel is used at the neck joint to control the truss rod that runs the length of the neck to the headstock. There is no need to remove the neck or strings, and the adjustment is very precise.

Battery and output jack

The active 2-band EQ preamp is powered by a 9V battery, which is stored in an easily accessible compartment on the bottom of the body. Simply open the compartment and snap in a new battery. Under normal use, the battery should last several months. The output for the cable jack is located on the top of the body on the control plate. The jack is well secured and is not easily dislodged. It also does not get damaged when placed in a stand. SUB instruments use highly durable jacks that withstand long-term use.
