Rico was founded in France in 1928, when Joseph Rico sent the first shipment of 350 kilograms of cane stalks to America for his nephew—a clarinettist at Walt Disney Studios—who at the time was unsuccessfully searching in LA for high-quality material for reed making. Rico reeds are designed and manufactured so that musicians can use them according to their own playing preferences. They are made from top-grade cane varieties that, through many years of selective cultivation, have achieved ideal characteristics for reed production.
