Part number MV801Y is a special 3x AA (4.5V) battery box with an integrated LED indicator PCB, used exclusively on newer Ernie Ball Music Man Majesty guitars manufactured after June 2019.

Why is this part specific?

Majesty guitar models manufactured after June 2019 switched from the previous standard 9V / 18V battery power to the updated Majesty V2 preamp. It uses:

• 3 AA batteries instead of classic 9V blocks.
• Built-in LED indicator on the rear of the box. It serves as a low-battery indicator (flashes red/orange) and also as a Mono/Stereo mode indicator (blue flashing)

Key maintenance and replacement tips:

• Do not use rechargeable batteries: The manufacturer and guitar techs strongly warn against using rechargeable (NiMH/Li-ion) AA batteries. They have different and unstable voltage, which can permanently damage (burn out) the sophisticated V2 preamp inside the guitar. Use only quality alkaline batteries (e.g. Duracell). 
• Soldering during replacement: If you replace the entire box yourself, it is recommended to splice the guitar wires to the existing battery-box leads (e.g. using solder and heat-shrink tubing) rather than soldering directly onto the box contacts. The plastic walls of the housing are prone to melting under high heat.
