The MusicNomad MN871 kit includes tools for safely removing protruding fret ends, levelling, rounding and polishing them. Suitable for electric and acoustic guitars and other fretted string instruments.

So-called “fret sprout” most commonly shows up as sharp fret ends protruding past the edge of the fingerboard. This can feel uncomfortable while playing and, in some cases, may even cause hand injury.

This kit is designed for luthiers, service technicians and advanced home users who want to carry out precise instrument maintenance.

Kit contents & main components:

The set includes three main tool lines for a three-stage repair process:

1. B-File (Fret Beveling File – MN831):
   • File in an ergonomic acacia-wood handle with two preset angles.
   • 23° angle for quick, accurate beveling of new or protruding fret ends.
   • 3° angle for final edge levelling flush to the fingerboard and burr removal.

2. E-File (Fret End Dressing File – MN830):
   • Professional medical-grade stainless steel file with a 280-grit diamond coating.
   • Features specially rounded, smooth safe edges to protect the finish and fingerboard wood from accidental scratches while rounding individual fret ends.
3. Tracers Fret Finishing Kit (MN860):
   • Six-piece polishing set with 2 handles and 4 replaceable Micro-Mesh polishing pads in different grits.
   • Removes filing marks and polishes fret ends to a mirror shine for maximum playing comfort.
